I'm a content developer and project manager with 15 years' experience distilling information into satisfying, engaging media across a wide variety of industries and disciplines, including psychology, human development, engineering, catering and food service, event management, and personal electric vehicles (electric scooters). With nine years' experience working in remote and hybrid roles, I understand the importance of concise communication, proactive time management, flexibility, and project prioritization based on the needs of the team and organization.
Spending much of my childhood with my nose buried in a book, I always knew I wanted to work with words. As a 90's kid, I spent equal time with Mavis Beacon typing games and Goosebumps books. I wanted to absorb the information the world had to offer, and continue to be a curious lifelong learner. From proofreading and copywriting to UX testing and design, my passion for learning and problem-solving lead me to work in educational technology and content development.
I started my editorial career in textbook publishing, working at Cengage Learning (formerly Thompson Learning) as an Editorial Assistant supporting the publisher of psychology textbooks. Within eight months, I applied for and accepted a role as Assistant Editor on the same team, coordinating production of 8-12 titles, including supplementary materials like instructor manuals, exams, and digital resources. After about a year, I accepted a role as Editorial Project Manager at Professional Publications, Inc., a publisher of test prep materials for engineering professionals. I supervised a team of copy editors on production of revisions and new editions, and helped develop and UI test a digital authoring platform.
From there, I became a freelance development editor, primarily working with authors, subject matter experts and internal teams on psychology and human development textbooks at Cengage Learning, and when they decided to outsource to an organization I moved onto copywriting for learning marketplace, Curious.com. In that role, I gained a wide breadth of knowledge across topics ranging from computer programming and welding to banjo playing and knitting, honing online instructors' YouTube videos into digestible, outcome-oriented content with quiz checkpoints. After working remotely for almost six years, I decided to return to an in-person environment and found a unique opportunity at a business community and event venue, Club Auto Sport, to apply my skills in copywriting and customer service (pre-editorial career, I was an excellent restaurant server!). Although I started as a receptionist, I quickly took on more responsibilities to support the team, including facility maintenance, new member orientation, community events, and social media promotion. After about two years, I accepted a new role as Community Manager with a food service and event catering company, Catered Too, which provided more flexibility in schedule and work location. In that role, I handled all internal and external social media, internal events, uniform management, and assisting with personnel disputes. I also helped run events, including everything from driving the truck to running staff check-in.
When COVID-19 hit, the Catered Too team shrunk from hundreds to handfuls, so I transitioned into a role as an Assistant Editor at Electric Scooter Guide (now Rider Guide). Over the first few months, I became a subject matter expert in electric scooters and learned how to effectively promote both video and written content as an affiliate. Not only did I write about scooters, I rode at least 20 models to better understand and communicate the nuances through blogs and scripts, produced weekly livestream YouTube episodes, and helped develop and maintain public-facing databases and evergreen content. When the owners sold the company, I was offered a role as Content Editor at Voro Motors, where I managed affiliate relationships, video production, website content, email promotions, events, and public relations. I decided to move on from the role when I felt that the company's rapid growth, paired with lack of organized leadership, was no longer a good fit for me.
As of September 2023, I'm currently looking for a full-time position (remote, hybrid, on-site), and open to all opportunities! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband (Justin), daughter (Olivia), son (Justin Jr), and cat (Dash).
